SEO Bad Practices - Things You Dont Have To Do When You SEO Your Site - Sites Impossible To SEO
By Ariel Williams
We know your what your problem is! You have a website for a long time, and nobody comes in and the people that come are not interested in your services or products. We know this as we have made mistakes ourselves before, until we found what was stopping them from coming and staying.
To explain this matter, we will give you a practical example of a website: http://www.myefacts.com
This website has a lot of content, and hundreds of keywords all around it. If you go to this site, you may say "WOW, this site should do really well, it might have thousands of visitors every day and as a result earns a lot of money with his advertisements". If you think like this, I am afraid you are terribly mistaken. This site has very little visits, and the visits it has, are mostly from 0-30 sec. This means, this site is very bad designed from the point of view of seo.
1. Its design is not appropriate, it could be better, but this is not the most important! It covers way too many topics: Acne, Advertising,Aerobics & Cardio, Affiliate Revenue, Beauty, Blogging, RSS & Feeds, Book Marketing , Book Reviews, Branding, Breast Cancer, Broadband Internet, Muscle Building & Bodybuilding, Careers, Jobs & Employment, Casino & Gambling, Coaching just to name some of them. If you want to advertise this site, you will have to spend hundreds of hours, thousands of dollars and we will not guarantee you get back the money you invested. You will need to start with each topic and look for good keywords with little competition, build backlinks and write articles about them. It is simply not worth it! What else?
2. Their topics are not related to each other. This is a very important thing to take into account. You will have to build the marketing separately, as if each topic was a different website. You cannot unite them by keywords that could relate them, because that is simply impossible as each topic has nothing to do with each other. What can we do to improve this?? Just stay focus on one single issue and build one site per topic. Dont try to be so ambicios of putting too many unrelated content to your site because it will be pointless and customers would like to stay away from it.
Good practices: examples of sites with high segment marketing: http://www.buyracingflags.com and http://www.ebooktown.net
These 2 sites are highly recommended. The first one, buyracingflags is about flags of cars and motorcycles. It covers just one huge topic which is motoring, but it is specially designed for it and the marketing is much easier. You need to find keywords related to what it is being sold, and usually every visitor that comes in, will be interested in other products besides the keyword he typed and resulted in his visit. For example, if he entered to the site by typing: "flags for early corvettes" he might be interested in other sportscars besides corvettes such as viper. The second site ebooktown, is all about ebooks. Most of them are related to how to profit online. As the other site, people that find interesting a keyword related to profit, can find many ebooks related to that, and can get him to buy multiple ebooks.
As a result, we would recommend to stay focus on one thing against having the temptation of having a website with a lot of content you will never touch and market. When you go to the university, you need to choose what would you want to study. You cannot be an engineer, a doctor, a football player, and a dentist. Most of the people pretending to be many things at the same time are a fraud and in very little cases they do know what they are talking about.
